What Is the Difference Between Supervision and Consultation?
Both consultation and supervision offer meaningful clinical support, but they serve different roles. Below, I outline how I approach each, including when I offer clinical supervision and when I offer clinical consultation, so you can choose the option that best fits your needs.
Clinical Supervision
Supervision is a more structured, ongoing process. In most cases, the clinicians I supervise are working toward LCPC licensure in Illinois. Clinical supervision is a space where you can explore your professional growth and client dynamics in a nurturing, collaborative atmosphere.
We’ll regularly review your caseload, discuss assessment and treatment planning, and look at how your own history and values show up in the room.
Over time, the supervision relationship is designed to provide you with guidance, accountability, and support as you reflect on your clinical experiences, ask questions, and develop your clinical judgment and identity as a therapist.
Clinical Consultation
In consultation, we work together in a flexible, collaborative process that helps you think through cases, explore clinical challenges, and deepen your confidence with OCD, trauma, and perinatal mental health work.
We’ll look at specific moments where you feel stuck or unsure, consider different ways of understanding what’s happening, and identify concrete options for next steps.
Consultation is a space for curiosity and reflection that doesn’t carry formal licensure requirements; you can bring particular clients, themes, or dilemmas, get support around your own reactions, and grow your skills while staying grounded in your values as a clinician.
Who Benefits From Clinical Supervision and Consultation?
I offer supervision and consultation for clinicians at every stage of their career, from those just starting out to mid-career therapists and seasoned clinicians who want to deepen or refresh their skills. It’s common to feel isolated when treating complex OCD or unsure about when to shift course in treatment; supervision and consultation are meant to give you a thoughtful, grounded place to sort that out. Wherever you are in your professional journey, I’m here to offer support that feels both practical and personalized.
My services are most commonly sought by:
Clinicians seeking I-CBT, ERP, and ACT consultation to sharpen their skills
Therapists working with complex OCD presentations
Clinicians treating OCD with co-occurring trauma
Pre-licensed therapists seeking supervision for LCPC licensure in Chicago and across Illinois
Early-career clinicians wanting more support and confidence in their work
Clinicians treating perinatal and postpartum OCD who want additional support with assessment, case conceptualization, and treatment planning
If you see yourself in any of these descriptions, or even if you’re not sure where you fit, we can talk together about what kind of support would be most helpful for you right now.
